Clockwork Princess Snippet!

Yikes!!!! It has been one busy week, and unfortunately that now means I am incredibly behind on my Character of the Month posts, however I do plan on an attempted catch-up soon. Anyway down to business. Yesterday Cassie treated her fans to another Clockwork Princess snippet, and if you didn't know, Cassie is now in Toronto spending two weeks on the movie set, so make sure you check out her Tumblr for updates from that. So now for the snippet.

“Tess?” A soft voice at the door; she looked up and saw Will there, silhouetted in the light from the corridor.

I think Cassie has successfully managed to put her fans in a depressing state of mind with all the dark snippets she has been giving us, because I can honestly say that I am not the only person who reads this and instantly feels sad.

Clockwork Princess Snippet!

Here is yesterday's Clockwork Princess snippet from Cassie's Tumblr. I unfortunately have been really busy for the past couple days and I am slightly behind on my posts, but here it is. I think Cassie must enjoy seeing the reaction from her fans when she gives us these horrible snippets. Although you have to admit the fandom tends to freak out then analyze every little detail.

No one can say that death found in me a willing comrade, or that I went easily.

I can't tell you how much this snippet tears up my heart, although I'm going to cling to my frail hope that this is either an excerpt from a book that the characters are reading, or that it is some side character (like a ghost) who just happens to be talking about death. I don't think I'll be able to handle if this is one of the main characters talking. ):

CotM - Day 12

I have had such a long day, it's nice to finally get a chance to sit down and work on today's Character of the Month post. I felt like we needed an awe moment with Jace and Clary today, so here is a beautiful representation of one of the sweetest scenes in City of Glass. You know which one I mean.

“I won’t touch you, not if you don’t want me to. I know it’s wrong – God, it’s all kinds of wrong –but I just want to lie down with you and wake up with you, just once, just once ever in my life.” There was desperation in his voice. “It’s just this one night. In the grand scheme of things, how much can one night matter?”
Because think how we’ll feel in the morning. Think how much worse it will be pretending that we don’t mean anything to each other in front of everyone else after we’ve spent the night together, even if all we do is sleep. It’s like having just a little bit of drug –it only makes you want more.

But that was why he had told her what he had, she realized. Because it wasn’t true, not for him; there was nothing that could make it worse, just as there was nothing that could make it better. What he felt was as final as a life sentence, and could she really say it was so different for her? And even if she hoped it might be, even if she hoped she might someday be persuaded by time or reason or gradual attrition not to feel this way anymore, it didn’t matter. There was nothing she had ever wanted in her life more than she wanted this night with Jace.

City of Glass by ~kyo31 via theherondaleboys

This is such a beautiful depiction of this scene, I love the urgency in their embrace, yet they both seem so at peace asleep in each others arms.

CotM - Day 9 (Again)

OK, so this is my second attempt to post this CotM post, because for some reason (either my computer ate it which is possible, or I forgot to hit publish, which is also possible) I just noticed that this picture had not appeared on my blog. So here is my post for Day 9, I hope it works this time.

I love the idea for this post, the crossover of Jace holding Tessa's angle just sends my mind spinning, and I figured since we've been treated to TWO Clockwork Princess snippets this week, it was appropriate.

He flipped the book open to the front page, where the title was printed in ornate script. Across from it was a long dedication, the ink faded now and barely legible, though Clary could make out the signature: With hope at last, William Herondale.
"Some ancestor of yours," Clary said, brushing her finger against the page.
"Yes. Odd that Valentine had it. My father must have given it to him." Jace opened at a random page and began to read.
"He unshaded his face after a little while, and spoke steadily. 'Don't be afraid to hear me. Don't shrink from anything I say. I am like one who died young. All my life might have been.'
"'No, Mr Carton. I am not sure that the best part of it might still be; I am sure that you might be much, much worthier of yourself.'"
"Oh, I do remember this story now," Clary said. "Love triangle. She picks the boring guy."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Lost Souls

I loved this scene in the book, although I'm still not sure I'm over the aftermath of what happened to this book...

CotM - Day 11, City of Heavenly Fire Snippet!

Hello everyone, thanks for checking out my Character of the Month posts, I hope your enjoying them. Today's post is a special treat with the quote coming straight from Cassie's Tumblr and the new City of Heavenly Fire snippet. I knew as soon as I read the snippet that it had to go with this picture so here it is.

Alec looked down at the shattered pieces in disbelief. “You BROKE my PHONE.”
Jace shrugged. “Guys don’t let other guys keep calling other guys. Okay, that came out wrong. Friends don’t let friends keep calling their exes and hanging up. Seriously. You have to stop.”
Alec looked furious. “So you broke my brand new phone? Thanks a lot.”
Jace smiled serenely and lay back on the grass. “You’re welcome.”

**ETA: hee hee.

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect quote to go with this picture, and after all the gloomy Clockwork Princess snippets we've been getting, it's nice to have some light Jace and Alec banter.

CotM - Day 10

Well, in honor of the mission to trend #JamieISJace on Twitter, I figured that I might as well make today's Character of the Month post go with the theme. So instead of fan art today's special post will show Jamie IS Jace, plus a couple Jace-centric quotes.

"No. My eyes are usually described as golden," Jace told the intercom. "And luminous."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

#35 - Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments by fictionalcharactercrush

"Haven't you ever heard that modesty is an attractive trait?"
"Only from ugly people," Jace confided. "The meek may inherit the earth, but at the moment it belongs to the conceited. Like me."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

"Shadowhunters: Looking Better in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

OK, well that's it for me today, I hope you enjoyed today's special edition of the Character of the Month post, and remember Jamie is an amazing actor, and even if he isn't how you envision Jace in your head, don't hate on him, he is going to do an wonderful job. (Besides, you will always have your own perfect image of Jace in your heads every time you go back and read the books.)

Jamie IS Jace!

I find it kind of disappointing that this post is even necessary but there you go. Apparently, even though Jamie has been cast as Jace, and filming has already started, he is still getting a lot of grief from some of the fandom who think he will not do the part justice. To start off with,  Jamie is an amazing actor and I think he will be a phenomenal Jace. However, even if he doesn't fit your ideal version of Jace, there is no point in complaining since he IS Jace and no amount of griping is going to change that. The following post was taken from Cassie's Tumblr and is addressing a Twitter trend that we are hoping to achieve.

#jamieisJace This seems very sweet, so I am for it. If you’re feeling it, it would be a lovely thing to trend for Jamie. Especially keep in mind this part: “I don’t want ANYONE supporting this trend to be mean spirited. We are taking the higher ground here and only showing love!!!!”
It’s been called to my attention that Jamie Campbell Bower is feeling the heat of some people in the TMI fandom
about not being the right fit for Jace Wayland. While I realize everyone has the right to their personal opinion (I like to
believe we are all pretty much living in a free society where we can speak our minds openly without retribution), I was
pretty upset that people are giving him grief about it.

Here’s what a fan, alittlebitoflace, said happened when talking to Jamie at the Writers premiere yesterday:
This actually happened to me today at the Writers premiere at TIFF
me: omg i’m so excited to see you in city of bones ! you’re the perfect jace!
jcb: thanks. that means so much after all the shit i’ve been getting.

Okay, Shadowhunter fandom, I personally don’t want to let Jamie go on thinking we don’t like him as Jace.
In fact, I think the most of us LOVE him as Jace. We feel like he IS Jace. So, here’s the plan today. Starting in just under 45
minutes (10 am Eastern/9 am Central/8 Mountain/7 Pacific/3pm UK time) and going every hour on the hour, we
will trend the following:

#JamieISJace

We at The Mortal Institute have been waiting for the right time to do this trend. It seems like just when I think that
everyone has accepted Jamie, I get these random tweets by people saying otherwise. I don’t want to put on the
attitude of “Oh, well, deal with it”, but the fact of the matter is Jamie will be playing Jace and there are thousands of us
who think we will do a great job. AND I don’t want ANYONE supporting this trend to be mean spirited. We are
taking the higher ground here and only showing love!!!!

So, Shadowhunters, SPREAD THE WORD!!! Let’s get this to #1 WWTT as many times as we can today!!!

So anyway, let's show Jamie that even though there may be some stubborn idiots in our fandom as there are in every fandom, they do not rule ours. Please spread the word, Jamie does not deserve the amount of criticism he has received from so called fans. Remember...

JAMIE IS JACE!

I can't wait to hear all the haters change their tune when the movie comes out and they see just how amazing Jamie is.

CotM - Day 8

Today's Character of the Month post is a much more subdued picture than most of the previous ones have been. This is a representation of one of my favorite scenes from City of Lost Souls, but I won't say anything else in case people haven't read it yet.

“It’s you,” she whispered. “It’s really you.”
He drew back to look at her. With his free hand he traced her cheekbone gently. She had missed that, his gentleness. It was one of the things that had made her fall in love with him in the first place - realised that this scarred, sarcastic boy was gentle with the things he loved.
“I missed you,” she said. “I missed you so much.”
He closed his eyes as if the words hurt.

This scene in the book was so perfect, I love how you can really feel the emotion in this picture.

CotM - Day 7

I ran out of time to post this yesterday, so today there will be TWO Character of the Month posts! YAY!

There are so many beautiful pictures of Jace with angel wings that it is incredibly difficult to choose one to post, however I finally settled on this one, (though there is no guarantee that it will be the only one). There is just something about this picture by ~smitth. I love the look on his face, it's just so calm, yet carefully guarded. Plus his wings are perfect, the fact that they seem like they're not quite there just adds to the atmosphere of the picture.

I had real trouble deciding on a quote to put with this picture and  I'm not sure why, but I finally settled on the following from City of Glass, I figured it went well with the ethereal aspect of the picture.

“People aren't born good or bad. Maybe they're born with tendencies either way, but its the way you live your life that matters.”

 Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

CotM - Day 6

Today's Character of the Month post is going to be short, but I just realized that I haven't posted anything from one of my favorite fan artists. Today's art is by the wonderful *Street-Angel, and because Cassie's once again heartbreaking new snippet, it is also on the humorous side.

"You guessed? You must have been pretty sure, considering you could have killed me.."
He pressed a button in the wall, and the elevator lurched into action with a vibrating groan that she felt all through the bones in her feet. "I was ninety percent sure."
"I see," Clary said.
There must have been something in her voice, because he turned to look at her. Her hand cracked across his face, a slap that rocked him back on his heels. He put his hand to his cheek, more in surprise than pain. "What the hell was that for?"
"The other ten percent," she said, and they rode the rest of the way down to the street in silence.

- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

When I first read this scene I couldn't stop laughing for some reason. I think it was the fact that Jace had been so arrogant up until that point and the look I imagined on his face when Clary slapped him was so priceless. Anyway I love this picture and I guarantee that if you have time to check out her gallery on deviantart you will not be disappointed.

Clockwork Princess Snippet!

I was pleasantly surprised when I found this new snippet this afternoon, I hadn't expected another snippet so soon. However, that was before I read it. I swear, Cassie must take great pleasure in tearing her readers hearts to shreds.

“It has been the privilege and the honor of my life to know you.”

When I read this I immediately thought of Magnus; the tone of this line is exactly the way he speaks. That being said, this sound horrifyingly like he's saying goodbye to someone. Why is March so far away?

As always, this snippet is from Cassie's Tumblr.

Clockwork Princess Snippet!

Yesterday Cassie treated us to a new Clockwork Princess snippet on her Tumblr. Thankfully after all the heart-wrenching snippets we've been getting recently, this one is actually on the humorous side.

“You know,” Cecily said, “you really didn’t have to throw that man through the window.”

Although it doesn't say who Cecily is talking to, I think most of us can hazard a fairly good guess. For some reason this snippet conjures up an image of Cecily with her hands on her hips staring calmly out a broken window while everybody else is standing around in open-mouthed horror :)

CotM - Day 5

Hello fellow shadowhunters, I hope you're all having a good day wherever you are. Unfortunately, it apparently is that time again, time for people to put down their interesting summer novels and replace them with textbooks and manuals as summer vacation draws to a close. So today's Character of the Month post is designed as a bit of school oriented pick-me up. Enjoy!

"I figured all your classes were stuff like Slaughter 101 and Beheading for Beginners."
Jace flipped a page. "Very funny, Fray."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

Mortal Instruments - Clary, Jace by =leabharlann

I love their expressions in this, even though the scene in the quote isn't exactly what the picture is showing, I can definitely imagine them bantering with each other. Clary just looks cheeky and Jace doesn't look overly happy about it. This picture is another one from leabharlann via theherondaleboys as always, check out the gallery if you can.

CotM - Day 4

Well today's Character of the Month post is going to be short because honestly there is not much to say about it. Have a little Simon and Jace love for the scene that made us all look at mangoes a little bit differently...

“What’s this?”
“That’s a mango,” Simon stared at Jace. Sometimes it really was like Shadowhunters were from an alien planet.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those that wasn’t already cut up,” Jace mused. “I like mangoes.”
- Cassandra Clare, City of Fallen Angels

I can't help laughing when I see this picture, Simon's expression is priceless and I love how Jace is in the shopping cart. Today's picture is from leabharlann via Cassie's Tumblr, as always stop by the gallery on deviantart if you have time, there is another picture of Jace and Clary that is perfect.

BONUS QUOTE :D
Because the mango scene is not complete without it!
“So what was that all about?"
"I think," Jace said, "that she asked if she could touch my mango."
"She said that?"
Jace shrugged. "Yeah, then she gave me her number.”

CotM - Day 3

Happy Labor Day Monday! I hope those of you who are lucky enough to have a long weekend are enjoying it, and to those people whose work week started today, have a little bit of Jace humor to make the day go by a little faster.

"What are all these?" Clary asked.

"Vials of holy water, blessed knives, steel and silver blades," Jace said, piling the weapons on the floor beside him, "electrum wire - not much use at the moment but it's always good to have spares - silver bullets, charms of protection, crucifixes, stars of David-"

"Jesus," said Clary

"I doubt he'd fit."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

This quote makes me smile, and I just think it goes so well with the expression on his face, plus aren't his wings beautiful! I don't know this artist's work very well, this is via theherondaleboys, but as always I recommend checking out the gallery on deviantart.

Character of the Month - Day 2

Today's Character of the Month fan art is this absolutely stunning piece Clary and Jace Kiss by *palnk. I can honestly say that she draws some of my favorite Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices art, and if you love this picture even half as much as I do, you have to check out her gallery on Deviantart. I'm only 2 days into my Character of the Month and I already know that Jace will undoubtedly be featured again, there is just too many beautiful pieces of fan art to choose from.

“There is no pretending", Jace said with absolute clarity. "I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there's a life after that, I'll love you then."
― Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

There were so many quotes to choose from that would have gone perfectly with this picture but I decided on Jace's beautiful love declaration from City of Glass because the farther this series progresses the truer it gets.

Character of the Month

OK, so this is something I've been wanting to do since I started this blog. I am very excited to introduce The Character of the Month!
So my plan for this is to feature a different character every month. During that month I will post fan art and quotes and anything else that I can think of related to that particular character. Hopefully it will be a good way to spotlight some of my favorite characters and their books, and maybe it will help you find some new books to love.

So without further a due, I give you our first Character of the Month...

Jace!

"It means 'Shadowhunters: Looking Betting in Black Than the Widows of our Enemies Since 1234'."
- Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

Jace Herondale by Leywan

Really, who better to be the lead off character for this than Jace. Especially with the filming of City of Bones just underway. I absolutely love this picture, the colors are perfect and his expression is flawless, and what better quote to go with it than his classic interpretation of the Shadowhunter code.

The art is by the wonderful Leywan on Deviantart, via theherondaleboys. Please remember to check out the gallery, I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Clockwork Princess Snippet

Well it's the last day of August, and to ease the passing into September I give you a Clockwork Princess snippet, straight from Cassie's Tumblr. Today's snippet contains the dreaded she so I have no idea who it is referring to. However, whenever you have someone pleading for a kiss, it can not be good.

Her throat ached: adoration, heartbreak, in equal measure. “Kiss me,” she said. “Please.”

I don't know how this woman can manage to cause me so much pain with such a small sentence but there you go. Any guesses who the scene is talking about?

Clockwork Princess Snippet

With all the exciting movie news of the past week, it seems that a Clockwork Princess snippet is just icing on the cake. Today's snippet, as always, comes courtesy of Cassie's Tumblr. Enjoy!

Have a Clockwork Princess snippet*. It is Willish-centric, so it should fulfill any Will snippets I am currently owing. :)
Will began to move toward the door to join Charlotte. Halfway there, he turned back, and crossed the room to Tessa: “Please,” he said, “while I am with him, would you do something for me?”
Tessa looked up and swallowed. He was too close, too close: all the lines, shapes, angles of Will filled her field of vision as the sound of his voice filled her ears. “Yes, certainly,” she said. “What is it?”
*I am a sucker.

I think every snippet from this book has succeeded in shattering a piece of my heart. Even the ones that aren't that sad are starting to depress me because when you compare them to the sad snippets you just get a feeling that this book is going to require a box of Kleenex.
